I am not much for console games anymore, but we own a Nintendo Wii and some of the nearly required Guitar Hero games. By far, the most use our Wii gets now is to stream movies and TV shows via Netflix to our television. There is one game however that I do plan to purchase and wear out with use…GoldenEye 007. For anyone old enough to remember, the original release of this game on the Nintendo 64 was a benchmark in the console gaming experience. It was such a landmark game that I nearly purchased a Nintendo 64 solely to own this game.
That’s right…I did not in fact own this game. But I had so many friends that did that I was no stranger to the long nights and spoiled weekends of blasting your best friends away. The great parties that were planned specifically around GoldenEye tournaments, and when there was a skill level discrepancy and some people were dying to frequently, just switch on over to paintball mode and keep shooting!
What I love most about the previews of this game is that they didn’t mess around too much with the source material. It seems the developers knew their audience would be primarily the old GoldenEye fans that were old enough to get enveloped in the hype of the N64 release. With the exception of Pierce Brosnan getting replaced by Daniel Craig, the aesthetics seem fairly consistent. Overall, I am excited to get back into it and to get some of my nostalgic friends together for a relapse into our childhood.
As a bonus, the release date for GoldenEye 007 (Wii) is my birthday weekend. Happy Birthday to me!
